Job Description

If you are a Scientist with AAV experience please read on.

We are creating the next generation of manufacturing technologies for viral vector production. Our novel plant-based platform solves the existing problems of speed, flexibility, scalability and safety in viral vector manufacturing while dramatically reducing production costs. Our goal is to enable global and equitable access to life changing genetic therapies.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Downstream Processing Scientist to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in research projects, with a focus on the downstream processing part of AAV production using whole plants. The Downstream Process Scientist will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the efficient and cost-effective production of high-quality products in compliance with regulatory standards. This position requires an individual with a strong background in Chromatography, molecular biology and hands-on experience in purifying AAVs, proteins, or vaccines. The ideal candidate will be ready to start immediately and contribute to our innovative research initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct advanced molecular biology experiments, including vector design, plasmid DNA extraction, PCR, cloning, and sequencing.
  • Extract RNA/DNA/Protein from plants, qPCR, western blotting, enzyme assays, and other functional assays.
  • Operate and maintain fermenters or bioreactors for cultivating microbial and mammalian cells.
  • Culture Agrobacterium and utilize it for efficient plant transformation procedures.
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve research goals and project timelines.
  • Maintain detailed and organized laboratory records, including experimental protocols, data, and reports.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements within the laboratory.
  • Mentor and train junior staff and interns in molecular biology techniques and laboratory protocols.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or M.S. in Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, or a related field, with 2+ years (Ph.D.) or 5+ years (M.S.) of relevant experience in downstream process development in the biopharmaceutical industry.
  • Hands-on experience with downstream processing techniques such as chromatography (affinity, ion exchange, size exclusion), filtration (depth filtration, tangential flow filtration), and UF/DF.
  • Experience with DSP on Plant made pharmaceuticals will be an added plus.
  • Experience with the use of fermenters or bioreactors is a plus.
  • Knowledge of AAV Biology is a plus.
  • Familiarity with process scale-up, technology transfer, and cGMP requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex process issues.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, process optimization, and statistical tools (e.g., Design of Experiments).
  • Knowledge of regulatory guidelines and quality control procedures in a research environment is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
