Job Description

Within the Department of Psychosocial Oncology and Palliative Care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute / Boston Children???s Hospital, we are wanting to add a member to our clinical research study team. The research assistant will work within the Rosenberg lab, which is led by Dr. Abby Rosenberg, and encompasses several physicians, including pediatric oncologists, ICU, and palliative care doctors. The RA will work within a growing department and will help coordinate multiple projects within the POPC team. Our projects aim to improve quality of life and quality of care from pediatric to adult patients and their families and loved ones. This position would include interacting with patients and their families, often to conduct surveys or qualitative interviews via in person, telephone, or video encounters.

Several of our studies are multi-site, so the RA will have the opportunity to collaborate with staff from multiple different sites across the country. The ideal candidate has an ability to work independently while also maintaining communication between the clinical and research staff as well as participants and their families/loved ones where necessary. The ideal RA has an attention to detail and is motivated to execute the research procedures required within these protocols.

Under general supervision, the Research Assistant I may be responsible for some or all the following:

  • Assist team in the coordination of project-related activities (i.e., reports, creating presentations, leading multi-site calls, etc.)
  • Assist investigators in determining patient eligibility for studies; ensure eligibility criteria are documented on all patients and only eligible patients are enrolled.
  • Explain studies to potential participants and families, consenting and assenting.
  • Maintain applicable databases; complete survey data entry and participant data from the electronic medical record.
  • Maintain the security and confidentiality of all study materials and data.
  • Assist with documentation for and communication with safety committees, institutional review boards, and sponsors.
  • Other project-related or administrative responsibilities as requested.
  • Assist investigators by reviewing grant proposals, protocols, and other study related documentation.
  • Conduct relevant literature searches and reviews as requested.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor???s degree in natural or social science, or experience with clinical research preferred
  • Spanish fluency is preferred

  • Great interpersonal skills, dependable, motivated and willingness to learn new tasks.
  • Computer skills, including prior use of Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to relate effectively in-person, video, and on the telephone to diverse groups of people, community members, physicians, nurses, and researchers.
  • Comprehending and adhering to multiple research protocols.
  • Great organization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Regard for patient/data privacy is essential.
  • Work with minimal supervision with excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize
  • Ability to complete work and to meet deadlines.
