Hood Industries, Inc is seeking a Operations Managerfor our Wiggins, Mississippi plywoodfacility. This position will assist in managing the overall operations of the location with a staff of approximately 345 employees. As the Operations Manager, you will play a critical role within the business by ensuring the plant is operating in the safest, most efficient, and profitable manner.

 

Hood Industries, Inc. is a blend of wood manufacturing and distribution concerns that include plywood, lumber manufacturing plants, and twenty-four specialty wood product distribution operations, located in eighteen states serving northeast, southeast, and southwest United States. 

 

Your Purpose:  Lead the overall manufacturing operations by utilizing the Hood Management Philosophy of “The Hood Way” by engaging Peopleand managing through Processto drive sustainable Performance while maintaining positive employee relations, meeting the company’s production goals, while operating within company policies, guidelines, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:      

  • Assist with the development and execution of the plant operating plan in accordance with company policy and division business objectives.
  • Support the creation of reliability maintenance and continuous improvement culture across the facility.
  • Monitor and manage key performance indicators (KPI’s) for the plant, including budgets, productivity, inventories, safety, quality, etc. 
  • Prepare and monitor quarterly, monthly, and weekly budgets and forecasts as required.
  • Assist in managing ongoing plant operations through supervisory and management staff.
  • Work with direct reports and division staff to establish goals for plant performance in all areas, and coach staff to achieve goals.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to supervisors and develop promising employees for future opportunities. Drive cooperation among plant employees. 
  • Resolve operating, scheduling, and production issues as needed. 
  • Assist with overseeing the reliability maintenance process and plant improvements. Manage capital expenditures.
  • Consistently reinforce a commitment to customer-focus toward both internal and external customers. 
  • Establish consistent processes, standards, and expectations for the plant to ensure ongoing performance within the company, regulatory, and legal requirements.
  • Provide leadership for the plant and set an example of proper professional conduct for others. 
  • Drive the continuous improvement process through direct reports.

Requirements/Qualifications:   

  • 5+ years of manufacturing experience including direct supervisory experience.
  • 3 to 5 years demonstrated leadership of multiple departments within a manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, good judgement, and the ability to make sound decisions in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills to motivate and guide the operations team towards a culture of reliability and continuous improvement.

Preferred Requirement/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s level education in forestry, business, or related areas is highly preferred but not required.
  • Prior experience working in plywood or wood products manufacturing.
