If you have earned a passing score on the NTN Law Enforcement exam within the past year, report your score to the Cleveland Police Department through the NTN website. Note that NTN charges a fee for this service.
If you have not taken the NTN Law Enforcement exam, the Office of the Civil Service Commission will email you a practice test voucher and an actual test voucher after your application on the City of Cleveland Jobs page has been approved.
If you have earned a failing score on the NTN Law Enforcement exam, you must wait a minimum of three months from your last exam date to retake it.
The examination period will end on January 6, 2024 (subject to change).
Salary Information:
Starting salary during Police Training Academy: $16.00 per hour
Salary after Academy completion: $58,749.73 per year

Job Requirements:
Age: Must be at least 21 and no older than 54 at the time of appointment to the Cleveland Police Training Academy.
Citizenship: Must be obtained prior to appointment.
Education: High school diploma or GED required.
Driver's License: Valid Ohio driver's license required before appointment.
Language: Ability to read and speak English is required.
College: Optional
Hiring Process:
Physical Abilities Test (PAT): Determines current fitness level and provides feedback on conditioning needed for the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) physical fitness test.
Drug Screening: A urinalysis drug screening is required. Candidates with positive results will be removed from the eligibility list unless results are medically justified. Drug screening may also occur after academy appointment.
Background Investigation: Includes interviews with current and previous employers, as well as contacts with neighbors and family. A thorough check of local, state, and federal records, including sealed and expunged records, is conducted. Unsatisfactory findings may lead to removal from the eligibility list.
Felony, Criminal Activity Disqualifiers: Felony convictions are grounds for removal from the eligible list. Some misdemeanor convictions may also result in disqualification. Additional information is available from the Cleveland Division of Police.
Psychological Evaluation: Assesses emotional suitability for the job. Includes written examinations and interviews with psychologists/psychiatrists. The Civil Service Commission reviews all records to make the final suitability determination.
Medical Examination: Appointment is contingent upon passing a pre-employment medical examination in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Standards for the medical examination are available online.
