Job Description

Morning Edition Host, Wbur News And Programming (24500517150711)

Tracking Code: 24500517150711

Job Description
You are something special. You're a passionate journalist. You thrive on conversation. You are insatiably curious. You like waking up long before the rest of us, because you are on a mission. You love Boston - or you will. And you believe that to love a place is to celebrate what sets it apart, interrogate what holds it back, and keep it informed. You want to speak with the people who make Boston a vibrant, multicultural powerhouse. You want to challenge stale narratives and uncover fresh ones. You believe in holding the powerful to account, and you know that tough questions are a sign of respect - for your guest, yes, but first and foremost for your audience. You believe in the power of radio. You love a good story. Your body clock and the Morning Edition clock are in sync, and you know what it feels like to absolutely nail a post. You demand excellence. You understand the responsibility that comes with an open mic with a direct connection to listeners of Boston's first-choice news station. You are WBUR's next Morning Edition host. You'll work each day with the morning news team to bring Greater Bostonians the latest information, news, and stories that are essential listening - because they're important, or because they're beautifully told, and hopefully they're both. You'll urgently push to interview newsmakers because listeners urgently want to hear from them. You'll help set WBUR's daily news agenda - raising new ideas, writing and editing copy, scripting and hosting interviews. You'll be a trusted voice in times of crisis and a welcome source of news, insight, delight and surprise. You'll also play a prominent role as the face of WBUR in the community, at WBUR's CitySpace, as well as online and on social media. And you'll love working at WBUR. You're out there, and we want to meet you. This position is covered under our collective bargaining agreement with the SAG-AFTRA union and the minimum salary for this position is $156,825. Additionally, when compensation is being evaluated for a candidate finalist, that amount can increase as experience and internal equity are factored into the offer amount.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree plus five plus years of journalism experience with at least three years of on-air experience.
  • Ability to uphold standards of editorial excellence in a high-pressure, deadline-driven environment.
  • Exceptional collaborative and team building skills, with the capacity to build diverse and inclusive environments.
  • Strong news judgment, particularly when it comes to local news, but also national and international news.
  • Comfortable reporting stories on multiple platforms, on air, online, and on social media.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
  • Strong leadership skills, able to build trust, influence and inspire.
