Position Overview:
The Assistant to the 1st Shift Supervisor will play a key role in supporting the shipping and receiving operations. This position is responsible for assisting with inbound shipments, maintaining communication with truck drivers, checking inventory, and directing the shipping team to efficiently unload and load trucks.
Key Responsibilities:
Inbound Shipments:
Assist in coordinating and scheduling inbound shipments.
Ensure all incoming shipments are received accurately and in a timely manner.
Communicate with truck drivers to provide necessary instructions and information.
Verify and inspect the condition of incoming goods against packing lists and purchase orders.
Communication with Truck Drivers:
Maintain clear and effective communication with truck drivers to ensure smooth delivery and pickup operations.
Address and resolve any issues or discrepancies related to shipments.
Inventory Management:
Assist in checking and managing inventory levels to ensure accurate records.
Conduct regular inventory audits and cycle counts.
Report any discrepancies or shortages to the 1st Shift Supervisor.
Shipping Team Coordination:
Direct the shipping team in unloading and loading trucks efficiently and safely.
Ensure all shipments are prepared accurately and dispatched on time.
Assist in training and guiding shipping team members as needed.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of all inbound and outbound shipments.
Prepare and submit required reports and documentation to the 1st Shift Supervisor.
Safety and Compliance:
Ensure all shipping and receiving activities comply with company policies and safety regulations.
Promote a safe working environment by following and enforcing safety protocols.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certification in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field is a plus.
Proven experience in a shipping and receiving role, preferably in a supervisory or assistant capacity.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
Proficiency in inventory management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to lift and move heavy objects as required.
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Working Conditions:
The position requires working in a warehouse environment.
Must be able to stand, walk, and lift for extended periods.
May be required to work overtime or on weekends during peak periods.
